Bonfire Night Extravaganza

With Bonfire Night this Thursday it will surely be an exciting few days of preparing layers, wellies and getting supplies for a warm mug of mulled wine. This timeless tradition is will be taught throughout schools this week and children across Great Britain will be singing "Remember, remember the 5th of November". We also love it because the next event will be Christmas!

Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes Night became an annual commemoration on the 5th of November due to the events that took place on 5 November 1605. Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested after being found guarding explosives below the House Of Lords. The plot was to assassinate King James I and replace him on the throne with his sister. Because of the failed attempt, Observance of 5th November Act was commemorated as a celebration day for the survival of King James I.

People celebrated across London with bonfires and festivities and it is still an annual celebration commonly involving bonfires, fireworks and sparklers. Over the centuries it has also changed from what was a predominantly family based get together to a event held in public places in large numbers.
