Any signs of Spring yet?
January 24, 2013
With the whole country still frozen and some parts cut off by snow it is hard to believe we are nearing Spring. When is it officially Spring? Well, according to wikipedia the specific definition of the exact timing of "spring" varies according to local climate, cultures and customs. I guess here in the UK it might mean the sight of daffodils in gardens and in the hedgerow and the sale of Easter Eggs popping up in the shops. For us here on the farm, we can see the burst of yellow buds on the wild gorse bushes. Once the fields dry out the ploughs are called into action in preparation of the spring barley. In late Spring, the fields surrounding the factory and office are full of the noise of young lambs. Even though it might be a quiet few months for candles the farm is alive and full of jobs to do before we hit the wedding season and that Festive time of year!
